Ever since they burst onto the scene in 1990 Designer dogs were in the limelight, and they've been much in demand. Any search on the Internet will lead to thousands of designer dog web site. They offer Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, Schnoodles, Puggles, and just about anything else you can imagine. These designer dogs, or "hybrid mix, " as they call it, is also much in the news, sometimes with unpleasant stories. Are they a good choice for potential dog owners?
the original is probably a hybrid mix Cockapoo. Cocker Spaniels are the most popular breeds in America for 17 years during 1940-50 BC. Some growers are crossed with the Poodle varieties produce a very popular pet. Cockapoos are still grown today. They are generally healthy dogs, but they may be inherited progressive retinal atrophy of their parents' poodle. Reputable Cockapoo breeders should be able to provide you with proof that Cerf (eyes), parents of litters tested. Cockapoos are somewhere in the process of trying to become a true breed. If you get a Cockapoo he could be from the Cocker Spaniel x Poodle cross, or he could be the x Cockapoo Cockapoo Cross. Both breedings produce Cockapoos.
In 1980 Labradoodle was developed in Australia as a potential guide dogs for the blind. Labradoodles are a cross between a Labrador retrievers, and one of three varieties of Poodle (miniature, toy or Standard). It was hoped that the cross will produce dogs with the intelligence of a poodle and a great trainability, gentleness and willingness to pray for Labrador. Dogs often are today, because in some cases, there are puppies in a litter that are very low shedding and good for allergy-sufferers who want to own a dog. However, the litters are not equal. Labradoodle puppies in the litter can have one of three types of fur or hair: rough / soft, straight hair like the hair curly like his parents' poodle. Generally, however, Labradoodles will shed as much as their parents Labrador. Labradors are considered one of the worst of all dogs when it comes to shedding. Labradoodles can be inherited health problems with both Labradors and poodles. Both breeds can have problems with hip dysplasia and Labradoodles may inherit a predisposition for the disease, too. Poodles can pass on genes for progressive retinal atrophy. When talking with a Labradoodle breeder should ask them if they had parents of her puppies x-rayed for hip dysplasia, and if a parent is a poodle Cerf clearance.

...If you get a designer dog? Many designer dogs are very cute. Growers are experimenting with different crosses to see what it produces. True, many of our purebred breeds began crossing pre-existing breeds. However, these old crosses were usually done because it was a specific need for a dog - the dog was required to kill rats in the barn or in a flock of sheep, a cross was added to try to improve performance. Designer dogs are being created to try to produce coats that shed less and produce cute dogs. For many breeders breeding these dogs commercially there is not much concern for the health of dogs that have been produced. There is also concern about (or envy) among purebred dog breeders, as prices for designer dogs are higher than the price of puppies from show champions. Is the gullible public to pay those prices? Maybe. But we all know that when something is popular people can command whatever price they can get.
People who work with animal shelters like to point out that you can get any dog you want to cross just by visiting your local shelter and it will not cost you a lot.
If you want a designer dog is no reason why you should not get one. However, you should go into it with eyes open. Designer dogs are not breeds. They do not breed true. If you breed two Labradoodles together you get a dog that looks like the ones grown. You May get a dog that resembles a poodle or labrador, or some mix. Designer dogs do not enjoy the "hybrid force." They are prone to the same health problems that existed in the purebred parents.
With all that said, the designer dogs are generally intelligent, gentle and eager to please, especially dogs with poodle parents. Some of them May be possible dogs for allergy-sufferers. They can make very good pets if you do your homework and carefully interview the dog breeders before buying.
